My beloved readers, I have been out living my life away from screens. Earlier this month I went to see one of my favorite happy bands, Tilly and the Wall.

Mom & Dad's Music Collection (Part 1- Mom)

Last week on All Songs Considered they talked about your parent's music collection during your youth. Essentially, they discussed the soundtrack of your childhood; the music that was played in the background before you "discovered" music of your own.

Because of my mom I know every word to every song played on "oldies" radio stations. The dial on the car radio was permanently fixed on the oldies. Mom also had some cassette tapes that she didn't mind listening to over and over again. She played Rod Stewart, Carole King, Carly Simon, and folky-classic rock mixes made by my dad and godfather.

Song Written About Me

I told my students that this song was written about me, then someone said they heard it on a commercial. I have a not-so-secret wish to have a song written about me. Someday it will happen.

..And You Loved Things Just Because

I haven't hear this song in a long, long time. For a while it was an anthem to my close knit group of friends. We were a tight group but after a friend was killed in a car crash we became that much closer. We listened to this as we sat in Dave's baby boy wallpapered room on that cold January day. We all whole heartily believed that was the last song he played on his WinAmp since it was still highlighted. This song has a place in my history, but still relates to my life at the moment.

Have I ever told you about my enchanted childhood? I grew up in the forrest of the Pocono Mountains. The lighting was much like this video. My sister and I were able to roam free for hours exploring the woods around our house. We'd get dirty, and come home smelling like pine needles and lake water. My sister and I are both creative types, and I believe it has a lot to do with where we grew up. There's no escaping the sense of wonder the forest gives you.

What an amazing song and video!! The ending is fantastic!
